About Kaula Luau – Ocean's Edge at Ko Olina
Kaula Luau – Ocean's Edge at Ko Olina offers a unique oceanfront luau experience that combines a traditional Hawaiian feast with an immersive theatrical performance. Through Native Hawaiian storytelling, music, chant, hula, Tahitian and Samoan dance, acrobatics, and fire-knife dancing, the show follows a meaningful journey across generations and islands. With sunset views, interactive activities, and a more intimate atmosphere, it is a memorable choice for couples, families, and groups.
As sunset colors spread across the Ko Olina coastline, Kaula Luau invites guests into an evening shaped by family, ancestry and the enduring stories of Polynesia. Held on an oceanfront lawn beneath the open sky, this immersive luau pairs a traditional Hawaiian feast with a theatrical production designed as one continuous journey rather than a series of separate performances.
At the heart of the show is the relationship between a kupuna, or grandmother, and her granddaughter. Together, they travel across oceans and generations in search of their family genealogy and the cultural connections linking Hawaii, Tahiti and Samoa. Modern lighting, projections and stagecraft enrich the storytelling without losing sight of the traditions at its core.
Powerful drumming, mele, oli and hula carry the story forward, joined by Tahitian and Samoan music and dance. Acrobatics and an exciting fire-knife performance bring bursts of energy to the evening, while interactive cultural activities and friendly competitions invite guests to become part of the celebration.
The name Kaula means “the binding cord,” an invisible thread connecting people to their ancestors, stories and sense of home. Produced by the Hawaiian Council, the experience places Native Hawaiian storytelling at the center of a meaningful night framed by ocean views and the beauty of Ko Olina.
